We will bring Nigeria Premier Football League games to Abuja next season – Sporting Supreme FC General Manager

For many years, the hope to have an Abuja-based football club play in the Nigeria top-flight football league was just a mere imagination as no Abuja-based club has gone beyond the Nigerian National League.

Sporting Supreme FC is set to change that narrative. Six points from the first two league games of the season make it look like an Abuja-based club is almost at the end of the tunnel.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, the General Manager of Sporting Supreme Football Club Mr. Shuaibu Yakubu spoke about the team’s ready to break the york and become the first Abuja-based club to qualify and play in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

“The entire team is fully motivated and everyone can see this from the results in the league so far. We flew the team to Sokoto for the game against Kebbi United and the result came. I can authoritatively tell you that the winning bonus of the two games played so far has been paid to the players and officials” he stated.

The well-experienced and soft-spoken Niger State-born football administrator is very optimistic that the team will bring NPFL games to Abuja next season.

“I understand Nigeria’s football league system and at this level, we are deploying everything at our disposal to ensure that we bring NPFL to Abuja. We have created an enabling and conducive environment for the team to do well and I am sure that those who know us are not surprised with the result so far” he added.

Sporting Supreme FC will be trading tackles in double-aways derby fixtures to fellow Abuja-based Mailantarki FC and City FC in match days three and four. Double victory in these two games will help the team maintain a 100 percent win record this season.

President Bola Tinubu has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara, political leaders and their supporters in Rivers State to exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law.

In response to recent tensions following last Saturday’s local government council election, the President expressed deep concern over reports of arson and explosions in the state.

He urged all political actors to de-escalate the situation and discourage their supporters from engaging in violence or destructive actions.

President Tinubu directed the police to restore and maintain peace, law, and order immediately.

While instructing law enforcement agencies to bring the situation under control, he emphasised the need to ensure the security of public institutions.

President Tinubu said government facilities built with public funds must be safeguarded from vandalism.

He stressed that self-help has no place in a democratic system, especially after 25 years of continuous democracy.

According to President Tinubu, the judiciary can settle all political disputes, and the outcome of this election should be no exception.
