We will create more impactful youth competitions in FCT- Mohammed

The Federal Capital Territory Football Association FCT FA Chairman, Alhaji Adam Mouktar Mohammed has revealed that the Capital City football Governing board will channelled it’s energy to creat more impactful youth programs in the city that will better life of the youth.


Mohammed who was re-elected for the second time recently  gave this assurance on Wednesday in Abuja at the the inagural board meeting of the new elected board saying that the board is ready to creat more youth competitions that will impact their life’s and make them useful for themselves and the society at large.


The initiatives which include aggressive grassroots campaign that will unravel more talents, Holiday league for the students, touring of the area council to meet all the Stakeholders amongst others.

According to him, we want to do more, and all we need is the Support and contribution from all stakeholders in the capital city of the most populous race on earth.


“We must engage our youth, if we want better society, we must give them positive look, our desire is for everyone to prosper in life, that is why we are going to create more opportunities through organization of more competitions that will help them.


“We all know that, competition is the main wheel that drive football development any where in the world, that is why we are working hard as a board to ensure we have more competitions.”


Speaking on the purpose of meeting, FCT FA Chair said, “It’s Statutory board meeting, the newly Inaugurated board are here to introduce ourselves and to put up an open house to develop agenda and I must say that we are ready to do our best to ensure growth  and development of football in the FCT.


“Our three (3) cardinal points remains, development of human resources which include, referees, coaches players (male and female) to improve infrastructure in all the area Councils and to ensure more competitions for that will no doubt put smiles on the faces of many Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religious and ethnicity.”


He also identified lack of sponsorship as the cog in the wheel of the acceleration of football in the the capital city of Nigeria.
FCT FA boss however appealed to the corporate bodies and well meaning individuals to come to aid of football in the capital city.


Mouktar commended the electoral Committee for conducting free and fair election, saying in the history of the FCT FA election this is the first time there will no be any ranchor or petition.


Also, he equally appaluded the media for their support and all positive vibes that has existed between FCT FA and men of pen pushers, he therefore urged them not to relax the oars but to continues projecting the good work and the progress of FCT for the benefit of all.

No crisis in NAWIS ahead of AFN elections on Monday

The Association of Nigerian Women in Sports (NAWIS), known for its orderliness since its establishment in 1990, continues to uphold its standards ahead of the upcoming Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) elections.

With members across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, NAWIS has consistently operated without external interference.

Over the years, its members have been nominated to various boards of national sports federations after meeting established criteria, including the payment of annual dues.

The association has attracted a strong base of respected sportswomen who have served the country with distinction, both during and after their active careers.

In preparation for the AFN elections, zonal elections were conducted on June 2 and 3, producing representatives for the national exercise.

While NAWIS initially planned to hold its election in Zaria, Kaduna State, the association’s headquarters, it was later rescheduled for Abuja on Monday, June 9, following directives from higher authorities.

Importantly, NAWIS has a set of strict guidelines that govern its electoral process, particularly the requirement for timely payment of annual dues. Failure to meet this condition results in automatic disqualification.

This guideline was the basis for the disqualification of Maria Wophil, who has reportedly not paid her annual dues since 2017. Her attempt to hurriedly settle outstanding debts just before the election was deemed non-compliant with NAWIS regulations.

Who is Fatima Yusuf-Olukoju?

Commonwealth gold medallist Fatima Yusuf-Olukoju is one of the leading contenders for the NAWIS representative position in the AFN.

She made history as the first African woman to run the 400m in under 50 seconds and brought glory to Nigeria by winning a silver medal in the 4x400m relay at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics.

Yusuf-Olukoju also claimed gold in the 400m at the 1991 All-Africa Games and silver in the 200m.

Based on nominations and her track record, Yusuf-Olukoju is considered the most qualified candidate. However, three other contenders have also shown interest, and the final decision will be made in the election slated for Monday, June 9, in Abuja.
