The PDP ward chairmen in Udi local government area paid a solidarity visit to Akuabata Njeze on Sunday, 15th May, 2022, to pledge their loyalty and support to her senatorial ambition.

In a meeting with them at her GRA residence, Njeze assured the party leaders of her readiness to provide quality representation to the people of Enugu West if given the opportunity to bear their banner at the senate. Nnediulu as she is fondly called told the ward party stalwarts that she is like ‘akidi’ that knows no boundaries, having empowered numerous sons and daughters of the zone in her days as a minister.

Addressing them further about her agenda for the people of Enugu West, Njeze prayed to be a tool in the hands of God to change the political narrative of Enugu West Zone by further uplifting the living condition of the people.

Reminding them about her people-oriented policies as a public servant which culminated in attracting many life touching projects in Enugu State, Ambassador Njeze stated that her conscience will never allow her to abandon her people on whose support she has attained political greatness. She further asserted that God has been so kind to her and that prompted her desire to seek a higher political opportunity to enable her give back to the people in appreciation of God’s mercies.

Like a grateful beneficiary, Njeze recounted how God used Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to sustain her political relevance in the present dispensation, and appealed that people should remember him in their daily prayers as leadership is one of the most difficult human endeavours. She in turn declared total support for Ugwuanyi’s administration, with a pronouncement of absolute loyalty to his cause even if it means to defend him with everything at her disposal, an indication that she does not forget people’s contributions in her life.

Going further in an emotion laden voice, Njeze assured her visitors that she will run an open door policy where everybody’s opinion will count, and affirmed that she is not like some politicians who usually shut their doors immediately after elections.

She equally condemned the activities of some selfish political leaders who covertly promote economic strangulation of their people with a view to exploiting their condition and ignorance. As a panacea, she vowed to change the narrative and pursue policies of self reliance in Enugu West Zone if she becomes the senator.

Responding, the leader of the delegation, Hon Ene Kevin from Nsude ward told her that all she did while in office as a minister were well known to them and many close observers. While pledging their total support for her, he narrated how Ndi Udi who were aware of her previous achievements, have been yearning for her services in an elective capacity.

One of them who expressed joy over Nnediulu’s current quest to go to the senate, told the gathering that she had never failed in her duties hence, the reason she remains the only woman in modern Nigeria that has served as a minister in three different ministries under one administration because of competence and capacity.

Also receiving the party delegates from Abor ward, her immediate constituency, Njeze thanked them for their faith and belief in her capacity to give them quality representation. She further assured them that they will never regret voting for her, as she will deploy her wide reach across Nigeria, and her international connection to attract political patronage and foreign direct investment to the zone. In their separate speeches, the leader of the delegation and the PDP chairman of Abor ward, Hon Louis Ogbuji and the youth leader, Hon Uche Okocha emphatically declared their unalloyed loyalty to her senatorial ambition.

They extolled her virtues and told her that their visit today (Sunday 15th May, 2022) was basically to express their gratitude to her for offering herself to serve her people at such a higher pedestal of national politics. They affirmed their conviction that Njeze remains the aspirant to beat in the forthcoming primaries having possessed all the requisite political maturity to handle the position.

In her closing remarks, Ambassador Njeze, also known as Nnediulu, made a passionate appeal and advised them to spread the news of her ambition in town, with a promise to live upto her responsibility if given the opportunity to prove herself.

The three times minister of the Federal Republic and a former ambassador of Nigeria to Switzerland, said she would liken her current quest to the popular Igbo adage that ‘agadi nwanyi ada aka nka n’egwu omalu agba’. She said from her wealth of experience, Enugu West will witness unprecedented transformation with her in the senate. After her remarks, overwhelming shouts of Nnediulu rented the air, signifying acceptability.

It ended in praise as Enugu State remains in the hands of God.

The Administrator and Chief Executive Officer of the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), Barrister Imeh Okon, has applauded the Yobe State Government for its strong commitment to leadership continuity and sustainable governance through strategic investment in human capital development.

Barrister Okon gave the commendation at the opening of a Management Retreat for Yobe State Permanent Secretaries, held at the PSIN headquarters in Abuja.

The retreat, themed “Succession Planning, Leadership Continuity, and Institutional Sustainability in the Yobe State Public Service,” convened senior bureaucrats and resource persons to discuss strategies for strengthening leadership and governance within the state’s civil service.

In her remarks, the PSIN Administrator praised Governor Mai Mala Buni for his foresight and partnership in prioritizing public sector training and capacity development. She described the theme of the retreat as both “timely and visionary,” emphasizing that institutions endure only when leadership is continuous, knowledge is shared, and systems—not individuals—drive performance.

“Institutions thrive not merely on structures or policies, but on the deliberate cultivation of capable leaders who can sustain progress across generations,” she said. “By prioritizing leadership continuity and institutional resilience, Yobe State is leading by example.”

Barrister Okon reiterated PSIN’s mandate to build a competent, ethical, and innovative public service capable of delivering tangible results to citizens. She stressed that effective succession planning must be anchored in continuous training, mentorship, and exposure to emerging governance trends.

Citing best practices from Singapore and the United Kingdom, Okon noted that successful public service systems deliberately identify and nurture potential leaders through structured talent pipelines and transparent career development programmes. According to her, Yobe State’s initiative reflects its readiness to sustain excellence in governance.

She also highlighted PSIN’s flagship programmes—SMART-P, which builds administrative and technical capacity; LEAD-P, designed to groom emerging leaders; and the Exit from Service Masterclass, which prepares officers for life after service. Okon urged the Yobe Government to adopt the Exit Masterclass into its human resource framework to ensure a smooth transition for retirees, preserve institutional knowledge, and promote productivity through entrepreneurship and consultancy.

“Succession planning is not an event but a culture that must be institutionalised at every level of public administration,” she added. “When we prepare successors in advance and invest in continuous learning, we guarantee the sustainability of reforms and consistency in governance.”

Declaring the retreat open, the Acting Head of Service of Yobe State, Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu, reaffirmed Governor Buni’s commitment to building a results-driven and high-performing public service.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service, Alhaji Shehu, the Acting Head of Service expressed gratitude to God and lauded PSIN as the “mother institution of public service learning.” He stated that Governor Buni has consistently directed the Office of the Head of Service to promote seamless succession planning and capacity building to enhance efficiency and accountability across government institutions.

“In line with this directive, we have brought the top echelon of the state civil service to PSIN—being the drivers and core implementers of government policies and programmes—to strengthen continuity and sustainability in our reforms,” he said.

He urged participants to fully engage in the retreat, share experiences, and cascade the knowledge gained to officers across ministries, departments, and agencies. The exercise, he explained, forms part of a deliberate strategy to institutionalize effective succession planning within the Yobe State Civil Service, thereby ensuring sustained productivity and improved service delivery to citizens.
