Olumide oyedeji elected as chairman Nigeria Athletes Commission
Olympian Olumide Oyedeji who was appointed by Nigeria Olympic Committee NOC in 2019 was on Tuesday elected as the Chairman of Nigeria Athletes Commission NAC.
He was elected unopposed with 29 votes out of 30 votes casted at media center of Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja.
Others member elected are Henry Okorie who polled 20 votes as Volleyball mem Emmanuel Jatto scored 20 votes while Blessing Onyeali polled 16 votes.
While congratulated newly elected member of the commission the NOC Engr. Habu Gumel who was represented by Dr Ademola Are charged the new exco to represent athletes well in the interest of Nigeria sports
According to him take athletes our children for the growth and development of sports in the country.
“Don’t be discourage, the journey is not smooth, represent athletes well, interface with NOC they will listen to you.
“Athletes Commission need to come together especially on the area of harassment, drug abuse and and others ugly incident that use to be happen among the athletes.”
He charged all stakeholders to work together in the interest of Sports.
Speaking on the victory, elated Oyedeji said it’s a big task for me tough challenge for him and he will not leave any stone unturned for the betterment of all athletes.
“We will ensure that athlete voice are heard, we will promote the interest of athletes in sports, we will make them involved in policy and decision making that represent the interest of the athletes and Nigeria sports at large.”

Team Nigeria Jets to Cairo for 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships

Excitement is high as Team Nigeria’s para powerlifting contingent departed Nigeria on Tuesday, October 7, for the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships set to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from October 9 to 18, 2025.
The milestone event marks the first-ever World Championships to be hosted on African soil, symbolizing a new era for the sport on the continent.
The first batch of Team Nigeria athletes left the country on Tuesday amid cheers and well-wishes from officials, fans, and supporters.
The second batch of the contingent is scheduled to depart tomorrow, October 8, from Lagos, completing the full team that will represent the nation at this landmark competition.
Speaking ahead of the departure, officials expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and determination to uphold Nigeria’s longstanding reputation as a force to be reckoned with, in global para powerlifting.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) reaffirmed its full support for the athletes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and excellence in sports.
