Volleyball: Nigeria U21 targets 2023 FIVB World Championship ticket- Mohammed

The Head Coach of Nigeria U21 Men’s Volleyball Team, Sani Mohammed revealed that the country’s aim at the African U21 Nations Championship is to qualify for the 2023 FIVB U21 Men’s World Championship.

Mohammed stated this during a press briefing with journalists at Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS) in Kaduna on Friday.

The African U21 Men’s Nations Championship is scheduled for 13th to 23rd August, 2022

He said the technical crew has studied the technicalities other teams especially the North Africa adding that other teams should be wary of Nigeria.

The former National setter said, “We were African U19 Champions and these set of boys attended the FIVB U19 Boys Championship. The boys have graduated to the U21 Men’s category and our target is to qualify for the FIVB U21 Men’s World Championship.

“The team is prepared, the President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod and his board members have tried their best; it is left for the players and coaches to do their best in Tunisia.”

“The technical crew have been studying the teams that will participate in the tournament because we do not sleep; other teams are wary of our current squad and development.

“We beam our search light on the host; Tunisia and other North African Nations. They feel the U21 is their birthright but this is an opportunity to let the World know we are equally good. Every team has their own strategy and when we meet on the court, the result will show our level of preparedness,” he added.

Meanwhile, the President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod charged the players to be good ambassadors.

Nimrod said the current board members of Nigeria Volleyball Federation are solidly behind the team predicting podium finish for the former African U19 Champions.

The National U21 team departed the country on Friday (11:45pm) at the Nnamadi Azikiwe Airport to Tunisia.

NDSF: Gov Eno lauds NDDC , Dangles Cash Rewards to State’s Athletes for Medals

Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Governor has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for organizing the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF), noting that it will help boost and promote sports tourism in the region while also discovering talents for national and international competitions.


“This is a huge opportunity provided by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and I want to encourage everyone of you to take this seriously. From here, talents could be discovered for national and international competitions,” the governor said during a visit to the state’s athletes camp at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC) in Ikot Ada Idem in Ibiono Ibom local government area.


The NDSF host state is also aiming to top the Medals table as the state Governor during the visit promised cash reward for podium finishers.


He made the promise when he addressed some athletes from the state during an unscheduled visit to the DASAC camp.


Eno said his administration remains committed to sports development and urged the athletes to reciprocate the gesture by making the state proud at the games, assuring that the government will reward all the medalists.


“We cannot host this event and don’t win medals, so for every Gold, Silver or Bronze medal, there will be reward. I will receive you immediately after the games and I will reward the winners. 


Over 300 athletes will represent Akwa Ibom in 17 sports at the Niger Delta Games starting from April 1 to 9 across different centres in the state.
