Hon. Chidi Nwogu Sparks New Era of Sports Development in Nkwerre, Imo State

The Nkwerre Country Club in Nkwerre, Imo State, Nigeria, has been revitalized with the construction of a tennis pavilion through the efforts of Hon. Chidi Nwogu, a tennis aficionado and illustrious son of the soil, in memory of his late mother, Chief Mrs. Fanny Nwogu (Akpaka), who was a tennis enthusiast and all-court player. Hon. Chidi Nwogu and his mother often played doubles together during her lifetime.
In a statement, the former member House of Representatives , Hon. Chidi Nwogu expressed his desire to not only keep his mother’s memory alive but also contribute significantly to sports development, recreational activities, and promoting active living for the community and visiting players from other states at the Nkwerre Country Club in Nkwerre Imo State, where he hails from.
In appreciation of his structural investment, the Executive Committee of Nkwerre Country Club formally invested him as a Patron on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 , and the tennis pavilion was also named the Honourable Chidi Nwogu Tennis Pavilion.
The club’s president Engr. Mike Ezeh remarked that the structural support to the tennis section has had a lasting impact on the collective identity of the members and the club.
Hitherto , there was no grandstand of any kind for spectators and lovers of tennis to sit and watch games.
The President and members of the club lauded Hon. Chidi Nwogus monumental contribution of building a tennis pavilion .
The Gov. Of Imo State was ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru (PhD),her husband Bar Chukwuma Ekemaro (SAN) alongside Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie, Chief of Staff Imo Govt. House.
Senator Patrick Ndubueze, representing Imo North SenetorialZone, Senator Osita Izunaso, representing Imo West Senetorial Zone,
the Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library Fund, Hon. Henry Nwauba. Others include
Hon Harrison Nwadike,Member house of reps Nkwerre/Nwangele/Isu/Njaba fed constituency,
Dr. Goddy Jedy Agba, former Minister of State for Power, Chairman/CEO Genesis group,Chief Nnaeto Orazuluike , other elder statesmen, were all in attendance to witness the investiture of Hon. Chidi Nwogu.

AACT 2026: 31 Days to Africa’s Big Sporting Gathering in Abuja

The countdown to the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) has officially entered the final month, with just 31 days to go before Africa’s leading women’s team golf championship tees off at the IBB International Golf & Country Club in Abuja.
In a statement signed by the AACT 2026Director of Communication Kayode Adeniyi on Friday in Abuja.
Under the theme “Africa Is Coming to Abuja,” the countdown campaign will spotlight the championship, the participating nations, the players, the host venue and the growing development of women’s golf across the continent.
The 2026 AACT, scheduled for November 2–7, will bring together women’s golfing talent from across Africa for six days of continental competition in Nigeria’s capital.
As preparations continue at the IBB International Golf & Country Club, attention is increasingly turning to Abuja, where the championship will provide a platform for African golfers to compete while also showcasing Nigeria’s hospitality and the country’s growing profile as a destination for major sporting events.
The countdown will feature daily stories, interviews, player and country profiles, tournament facts, behind-the-scenes updates and features on the host venue as the championship draws closer.
The campaign will also highlight the role of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), the Local Organising Committee and other stakeholders in preparing for the continental championship.
With just 31 days remaining, anticipation is building across the African golfing community as Abuja prepares to welcome the continent’s leading women golfers.
Africa is coming to Abuja.
