NIHOTOUR Advocates Women Empowerment Via Vocational Training, Skill Acquisition Initiatives

The Director General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa has advocated vocational training and skill acquisition programs that will empower women particularly the vulnerable in the society to make them independent and self-sustaining
Kangiwa who made the call when Officials of the FCT Chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), led by the Chairperson Mrs. Rekia Rachael Adejo-Andrew paid a courtesy visit on him at the headquarters of the Institute in Abuja, said that empowering vulnerable women in the society with the requisite skills in vocational training is the only sure way to protect them against all forms of risks and to survive as independent individuals.

According to him, NIHOTOUR as a training Institute is willing to partner with FIDA to offer the training needs of women under the vision and mission objectives of the Federation in providing hope, succor and healthy living for vulnerable women in the society especially in Travel Tourism and Hospitality trades.
The Director-General who expressed his delight with the visit and the good work the Federation is doing to lift the poor, voiceless and the vulnerable segment of women in the country said Nigeria needs more of such enviable social and Non-Governmental Organizations to augment government’s efforts at providing better living conditions for the populace.
Earlier in her address, Mrs. Adejo-Andrew said they were at NIHOTOUR to congratulate the Director-General over his appointment as well as to identify with his visionary leadership and philanthropic qualities that endeared him to many in the country, including FIDA so that society can be a better place for all and in particular, the vulnerable and less privileged.
She said the numerous activities of the Federation which include the enhancement, promotion, protection, and preservation of the rights and welfare of women and children in the society through empowerment require the support and assistance of well spirited individuals and organizations in the likes of Nura Sani Kangiwa and NIHOTOUR, adding that FIDA is today at the Institute’s head office to solicit for that support and collaboration.

NTDA, NIHOTOUR Strengthen Partnership at Joint Management Retreat

The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) and the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) recently held a joint management retreat at Ibeto Hotel, Abuja. The retreat brought together key management officials from both agencies to foster collaboration, address industry challenges, and develop strategies for advancing Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality sector.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of NIHOTOUR, Aare Dr. Abisoye Fagade, expressed excitement about the retreat and urged management staff of both agencies to engage in meaningful discussions to find lasting solutions to shared challenges. “We need to focus on strengthening inter-agency synergy between NTDA and NIHOTOUR”, he said. He also emphasized on the importance of teamwork in achieving sustainable growth for the sector.
The Director-General of NTDA, Chief Folorunsho Coker, called for stronger collaboration between the two agencies, stating, “It is time for collaboration, not competition.” He also highlighted the critical role of technology in transforming Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality industry, urging stakeholders to embrace digital innovations to enhance service delivery and global competitiveness.
The joint management retreat served as a platform for knowledge sharing, strategy alignment, and renewed commitment to the growth of Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality landscape. It reinforced the shared vision of both agencies to position Nigeria as a top destination for local and international tourists.
The retreat yielded actionable strategies that will drive growth and innovation in the tourism and hospitality industry.
