Ojigwe States His Mission To NFF

Former International, Karibe Ojigwe has revealed that his mission to the Nigeria Football Federation Board is to ensure that age grade and youth football in the country receives adequate attention.
Pascal Karibe Ojigwe, who is the Abia State Commissioner for Sports said the grassroot remains the fulcrum of football development in any country, and Nigeria should not be an exception.
The Ex Enyimba football club player, Ex Super Eagles defensive midfielder, who also laced his boots for FC Kaiserslautern, FC Koln (Cologne) and Bayer Leverkusen, all in Germany said Nigeria should be able to return to its winning streak if the age grade teams and the grassroots are adequately developed.
Ojigwe who played either as a defender (left back) or defensive midfielder, in an illustrious career that lasted more than a decade, said he will also support other executive members to champion the revitalization of the local league to ensure that the local clubs compete favourably with other teams in Africa.
Ojigwe who won the Under 17 World Cup 1993, the German Bundesliga 1998 and was
Runner up in UEFA Champions League, with Bayer Leverkusen against Real Madrid submitted his nomination forms on Wednesday in Abuja, and ready to face the screening committee either on Wednesday or Thursday to ascertain his eligibility to vie for the one of the two executive slots reserved for the South-East in the NFF Board. The election holds in Benin City on 30 September 2022.
Hon. Karibe Ojigwe, was born on 11th December, 1976, and started and ended his footballing career with the Peoples Elephant, Enyimba International FC in 1993 and 2007 respectively.
The Aba-born ex-footballer was part of the Golden Eaglets side that won the Japan 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup, and was part of the Super Eagles side at the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations held in Mali (Nigeria finished with Bronze).
Ojigwe was also part of the Bayer Leverkusen side that finished second in the Bundesliga in 2002, also losing the UEFA Champions League final and DFK-Pokal final (German Cup) the same year.
Karibe Ojigwe won 17 International caps, scoring 2 goals for the Super Eagles. He holds a German citizenship.

Governor’s Cup Final: NIS DG, Shaibu, Gusua, Others leads Support for tournament

The Director General of the National Institute of Sports, Comrade Philip Shaibu and the Nigeria Football Federation president, Ibrahim Gusua has thrown their weight behind the Governor Diri Douye governor’s cup tournament.
The dou were at the finals of Governor’s Cup final between Eternal Grace Ministry FC (EGM FC) and Advance Dreams FA at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Rt Hon Philip Shaibu, Director-General of the National Institute of Sports and immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, was in attendance, lending his support to the event.
The Governor’s Cup tournament, which commenced earlier in 2025, has been a thrilling competition, featuring top teams from across the state.
As the match gets concluded, both teams gave their all, Comrade Philip Shaibu watched the game closely his experience as a sports administrator informing his analysis of the game.
The crowd is fully engaged, cheering on their favorite team with enthusiasm. Philip Shaibu’s presence is adding to the excitement, and he is being warmly received by the Governor of Bayelsa State and other sports enthusiasts, including NFF president, Mallam Ibrahim Musa Gusau, former super Eagles Coach and Technical Director Samson Siasia and Austin Egueavon.
As the tournament ends, the DG , National Institute of Sports hope that othe Governors should emulate their Bayless state counterpart in developing grassroots sports through cach them young.
Speaking shortly after the the tournament, Shaibu said look forward into partnership with state governments in producing experience and qualified coaches in different sports field.
