Sports Minister Bags  Ogbomoso Ajisegiri’s Award

It was a gathering of the Crème de LA Crème of indigenes of Ogbomoso, Oyo state on Friday night in the Federal Capital Territory when the current Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare was honored with Ogbomoso Ajisegiri’s Award for his immense contribution, innovation, and development of the sports as well as its contribution to the development of Ogbomoso where he hailed from.

The award night marked another chapter of recognition and encomium for the Sports Minister as his kinsmen from Ogbomoso honored him with an appreciation award, for his enviable, modest achievements since assumption of duty.

Other sons of the soil that also bagged awards at the event, which held at Merit House in Abuja, include Olubode Oke, Abdulfatai Buhari, Samson Adegoke, Williams Adeleye, and Olusegun Adekunle.

The occasion was also served as an avenue to appeal to all citizens of Great town Ogbomosho to come together and develop the town.

In his address cum acceptance speech, the Minister Mr. Dare profusely thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the opportunity to serve and for bringing his hometown Ogbomoso to the center stage.

Dare who has been dubbed performing minister, however, appreciated and thanked the staff of the Ministry for their support stressing that the award is not for him alone but for the team spirit of the staff which has always spurred him to work hard.

While highlighting many plans that are still in the pipeline, the Minister gave an update on the ongoing process of Ayede Polytechnic and Oyo – Ogbomoso road.

In his remark, the Chairman of the occasion, Otunba Alao Akala ( Former Oyo State  Governor) ably represented by Air Vice-Marshal Bolaji Adigun Ltd, said: “it’s a great thing to recognize eminence in high places that way, you encourage people to do more”. He commended Mr. Dare for doing exceedingly well since his appointment as the Federal Minister for Youth and Sports Development.

The Chairman Ogbomoso Ajisegiri Progressive circle, Abuja Chapter, Engr. Layi Akangbe extolled the virtues of the Minister while he encouraged him to use his position to address unemployment among the youths in the country.

He stated, “The remarkable progress we have witnessed at the African Games is a testament to the collective efforts of our athletes, coaches, administrators, and supporters. On the eve of the closing ceremony alone, Ghana clinched eight gold medals, winning the ultimate prize in women’s hockey, 200m men’s athletics event, high jump, men’s football event, and four boxing gold medals in boxing. All in one night.

Ghana also made history by becoming the first country to win god in both men’s and women’s football events at the Games.

The closing ceremony of the Games saw star performances from star acts such as Stonebwoy, Stanley Enow, Wiyaala, Innoss’B, amongst others.

As Ghana continues its upward trajectory in the realm of sports, the nation stands poised to achieve even greater milestones under the visionary leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Sports minister, Mustapha Ussif.
