THE UGLY TRENDS OF DESTRUCTIVE CRITICISMS: THE ERA OF OPEN LETTERS IN ENUGU.

Published

By Ifeanyi Ogenyi

In recent times, the social media have been callously deployed to destroy people’s character and reputations. The press freedom enshrined in Nigeria Constitution has been converted to license for systematic abuse and vitriolics against Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration.

We are in the moments when anyone who mendaciously attackes the goverment fashionably ascribe to himself the appallation of public analyst and activist with the underpinning aim of gaining cheap popularity. whereas those that support the goverment for its good policies and achievements are mercilessly villified and also tagged as praise-singers ;and called all manners of unprintable names.

It has become imperative to bring this to the fore not because of the constancy of the criticisms but the stereotypically patterned styles of the critics who have unrepentantly declared media war against Gov.Ugwuanyi and his administration.

These league of critics have turned themselves into social media warriors and monsters.
The likes of Celestine Okanya,Rev.Fr.Attah of Catholic Diocese of Nsukka and hosts of others have chosen open letters as the best way to communicate to our dear Governor who incidentally is their brother from Enugu North Senatorial District. These fault-finders and other members of their league across the state have made themselves willing tools in the hands of power drunks and political wolves for spewing venoms and running down Gburugburu’s administration at all costs without regards to the consequences of their destructive actions.

Hired critics without conscience are the ultimate evil in the society because their inks flow from the blood of the innocent people whose character and good works they are paid to mudsling and destroy.

Their stereotyped and skewed approaches to public issues are just recycled fringed views of deluded minds who hustle to undermine Gov.Ugwuanyi’s sterling achievements all because of 2023. But if I may ask, why are these psychopaths and their paymasters afraid of Gov.Ugwuanyi and jiltery about 2023? The legendary achievements of Gov.Ugwuanyi speak for him and will continue to speak for him even in 2023.

Agreed, constructive criticism is a catalyst for the advancement of democracy and its inherent principles but fake news, unfounded allegations and blackmails are all anathema to democracy and good governance.

While I also agree that we all have rights to freedom of expression and of the press, I don’t believe that such rights confer on anyone the freedom to recklessly and willfully attack the character and reputations of others in the guise of criticisms which are becoming increasingly alarming in Enugu.

I am still struggling hard to understand how some men in cassocks would abandon their pulpits and the flocks just like one Rev.Fr. Attah and resort to the social media, using an open letter as a fashionable means to advise a down-to-earth leader like Gov. Ugwuanyi whom everyone knows to be accessible and approachable.

What has always surprised me each time I read the critics is the shallowness of the the issues they always raised.

Though the Rev. Fr. Attah’s long letter clearly showcased his deep ignorance in acts of governance and clannish tendencies yet why playing to the gallery by the likes of Fr.Attah? Has the church badly inflitrated like this such that men of the collars do not know any longer the nature of their callings? Is love for money, power and cheap popularity taken place over the business of the vineyard? Has he not heard or read from the Bible that ” we should rebuke one another in love”. Has the Rev.Fr. demostrated the biblical love? There is nothing wrong under our laws for a Priest to join partisan politics but chosing such ignoble part by any ordained man of God comes with its attendant consequential damages because the things of the world are dealt with in worldily ways. This is not a case of speaking ill of men in Cassocks.

Today almost everyone has fashionably branded himself public analyst and activist purportedly speaking the truth and fighting for the people once you say negative things about the goverment. This is worrisome because their pens drip with venoms against the innocent people.

The antics of these diatribes reasonably interferes with the progress of the state because they only find faults without profering reasonable solutions.

The stupidest part of it is that these critics always like to prove to their audience that they are ink professionals with specialty in vitriolics, recriminations and mudslingings . That is sadly their trademarks of being public spirited and speaking the “truth” or whatever that represent.

They feel happy and fulfilled about the negative things they say or write about Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration.

Their styles and patterned manner of contamination of information and distortion of facts by invectives, sustained lies, canards, mauling, stereotyping identity politics, recriminations and mudslinging are destructive.

But destructive criticism is not a mark of courage, intelligence or patriotism as the diatribes think. It does not really pay anyone good because what goes around comes around.

I shudder to say that the destructive use to which some have put social media in the recent times calls for caution because it is an ill-wind that blow no one good.

The social media warriors on campaign of attrition should realize that posterity will not be fair to them if they use lies to destroy Gov.Ugwuanyi’s administration. But I am not perturbed because Enugu is in Hands of God.

Is nidlling our dear Governor over everything under the sun even going as far as literally condemning his mantra ” Enugu State is the Hands of God” and construction of Chaple in the goverment house by a Rev. Fr. part of constructive criticism? I do not think so even though I know that opinion is free but facts are sacred.

A visionary and goal-driven leader like His Excellency Rt.Hon.Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi deserves to be supported and not destructively criticized. He has outstandingly and overwhelmingly performed in this five years. The records of his landmarks achievements are there for everyone to see and he is still strategically charting a new path for Ndi Enugu.

Gburus! let’s the good works continue in Enugu.
