Why Akinwunmi Deserves To Be NFF President – Osun FA Chairman

Osun Football Association Chairman, Chief Rasaq Mustapha has stated that the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF), Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi who is gunning for the apex position of the federation deserved to win the September 30 elective congress slated for Benin, the Edo state capital.

In a chat with Osun Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN), on Tuesday during the .monthly stakeholder’s forum of the association, the “Ajiroba Ooni” of Ile-Ife said he and many other chairmen from the South West and beyond were supporting Barr. Akinwunmi because of his wealth of experience, human relations, exposure and preparedness for the onerous task of NFF president.

“We all know that the position of NFF president is not for babies due to the fact that football has become an important sector in Nigeria. Whoever should get to that position must have been tested and certified as a thoroughbred professional who is not only able but fit, capable and possesses required leadership experience and exposure.

“Among all aspirants, majority of us support Barr. Akinwunmi because of his understanding of the game, his experience and exposure over the years.

“He is fully armed with a wonderful vision and template of how to develop football in the country and he is ready to invest his time and energy in the development of grassroot football for the benefit of all. This is why some.of us are supporting his ambition as we believe that he would run the affairs of the federation democratically and in such a way that all states will benefit.”

When asked about the sports development under the current Minister Sunday Dare, the former Chairman of Ajiroba Ooni FC said the Minister did well and his achievements were commendable.

“Our minister of sports is a good man. He is a man of policy who wants things to be done the right way which is evident in some of the polices he introduced. He has performed creditably well and we believe more can still be done before the end of the present administration at the centre.”

Chief Ajiroba Ooni however urged the ministry of Youth and Sports to work hand in hand with the leadership of NFF for Nigeria to record success in any football tourney.

Governor Obaseki Congratulates Edo Citizens on Prestigious National Award

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated citizens of Edo State origin who have been bestowed with prestigious national awards, in recognition of their invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s development.


The governor, in a statement, lauded the awardees for their immense contributions to the socioeconomic growth and development of the country and for being worthy ambassadors.


He said, “It is with great pride that I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the esteemed citizens of Edo State origin who have been bestowed with prestigious national awards, in recognition of their invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s development and for being worthy ambassadors of our beloved country.


“I offer my felicitations to Augustine Oyarekhua Alegeh SAN, Chief (Dr) Leemon Agbonjagwe Ikpea and Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, on their distinguished investiture with the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) awards.


“I also applaud Charles Ekhoeutowmen Idahosa and Maj. Gen. Anthony Bamidele Omozoje for their meritorious conferment of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) awards.”


The governor continued, “Furthermore, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the recipients of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) awards, Dr. Mrs. Owen Omogiafo and Victor Ifijeh. Their exceptional achievements deserve commendation.


“I must also commend Victor Osimhen, who has been honoured with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) award for his remarkable exploits in the realm of football, which have earned you global acclaim.


“As a government, we take immense pride in the fact that you, our sons and daughters, have attained a well-deserved elevated status for your outstanding achievements and for raising the bar in your different pursuits and spheres of influence.”


“We extend our best wishes for success in all your future endeavours, as you continue to enhance the reputation of our dear state and nation,” Obaseki added.


Maj. Gen. Omozoje, attended Eghosa Anglican Grammar School, Benin-City, graduating with excellent grades in 1984, this was before attending the Nigeria Defence Academy Kaduna and other prestigious Military schools overseas.
He is currently the Chief of Policy and Planning,  Nigeria Army, Abuja.
