AFN President Suspended, as  137 Athletes’ Removed Sunday Adeleye Technical Director

With less than 24 hours to the resignation of one of the present Athletic Federation of Nigeria AFN Solomon Ogba from the board due to what he described as undue interference from the ministry, the seven board members on Tuesday suspended the AFN President Ibrahim Gusau after several allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power as well as mismanagement of funds.

The Board of Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) met at MKO Abiola Stadium, Package A. Suspended Engr. Ibrahim Gusau after several allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of power and mismanagement of funds.

Board member at the meeting includes; Hon. Olamide George. Ag. President, Gabriel Okon, DIG Sani Mohammed (Rtd), Rosa Collins, Brown Ebewele, Himal Charles (AR), Tafida Gadzama. While Maria Wolphill and Prof. Ojeme sent the apologies.

Also, former AFN President Solomon Ogba sitting interference by the Ministry  of Youth and Sports Development at best is a false alarm and an escapist excuse to divert attention from the real issue

Not only that, a total of 137 Athletes voted for the removal of Sunday Adeleye as Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria as well as Athletics Representative.

In a letter ref number: FMYSD/FEAD/TFAN/2019/CON/1/24 written by the AFN secretary general, it was revealed that Mr. Sunday Adeleye has used his office to misappropriate funds in the course of the duty.

In this regards, athletics who is he representing have asked and recommended the ministry to remove him from the position he is holding.

According to the the letter, 137 athletes alleging various misappropriations of funds have recommended that he should be removed as AFN Athletics Representative.

On the eve of the closing ceremony alone, Ghana clinched eight gold medals, winning the ultimate prize in women’s hockey, 200m men’s athletics event, high jump, men’s football event, and four boxing gold medals in boxing. All in one night.

Ghana also made history by becoming the first country to win god in both men’s and women’s football events at the Games.

The closing ceremony of the Games saw star performances from star acts such as Stonebwoy, Stanley Enow, Wiyaala, Innoss’B, amongst others.

As Ghana continues its upward trajectory in the realm of sports, the nation stands poised to achieve even greater milestones under the visionary leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Sports minister, Mustapha Ussif.
