CAF Champions League: Babatunde, Okechukwu Sparkle In Wydad 2-1 Win Over Mamelodi Sundowns

Super Eagles duo Babatunde Michael and Gabriel Okechukwu at the weekend were key instrumental in their team, Wydad Casablanca 2-1 CAF Champions League first-leg win over Mamelodi Sundowns.

Wydad Casablanca 56% ball possession and 458 key passes which led to their dominance were attributed to Babatunde Michael’s midfield dominance and command. Babatunde excellent performance also helped Wydad Casablanca 70% pass accuracy and 21 shots against opponent’s 7 shots.

Babatunde Michael was, however, substituted in the 80th minute as his compatriot, Gabriel Okechukwu came on after few weeks outside the team due to injury. Gabriel also played a vital role in the match but his efforts were either saved Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper, Onyango or inches away from the goal post.

Saidi 26th minute strike put the host ahead as Aouk 47th minute goal ensured F. Benzarti lads went away with a 2-1 win. However, Ngcongca brought hope to his team in the 2nd minute when his goal brought the game to parity

Ghana also made history by becoming the first country to win god in both men’s and women’s football events at the Games.

The closing ceremony of the Games saw star performances from star acts such as Stonebwoy, Stanley Enow, Wiyaala, Innoss’B, amongst others.

As Ghana continues its upward trajectory in the realm of sports, the nation stands poised to achieve even greater milestones under the visionary leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Sports minister, Mustapha Ussif.
