NSF Postponement: National Council On Sports Meets On Way Forward

The National Council on Sports will on Saturday meet in Edo to deliberate on the way forward following the postponement of the National Sports Festival, tagged “Edo 2020”.

It will be recalled that on Tuesday approved the postponement of the NSF as a precautionary move against the COVID-19

The Chairman, Main Organising Committee MOC and the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Gabriel Aduda, said the extraordinary council meeting would involve all major stakeholders.

According to him, members of the National Council on Sports are hereby invited to an Extra-Ordinary meeting to deliberate on this development.

“The meeting will hold at the LOC Secretariat, Government House Benin, Edo.”

The Sports Ministry, however, commended the progress made toward delivering a world-class sporting fiesta and huge resources expended to provide facilities for hosting the festival.

The ministry said even though the COVID-19 pandemic was not presently affecting Nigeria on the scale it is ravaging other countries of the world, precautions must be taken.

“It is in the interest of the safety of Nigerians therefore that the Ministry has postponed the NSF, until a later date to be communicated shortly,” the ministry said.

On the eve of the closing ceremony alone, Ghana clinched eight gold medals, winning the ultimate prize in women’s hockey, 200m men’s athletics event, high jump, men’s football event, and four boxing gold medals in boxing. All in one night.

Ghana also made history by becoming the first country to win god in both men’s and women’s football events at the Games.

The closing ceremony of the Games saw star performances from star acts such as Stonebwoy, Stanley Enow, Wiyaala, Innoss’B, amongst others.

As Ghana continues its upward trajectory in the realm of sports, the nation stands poised to achieve even greater milestones under the visionary leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Sports minister, Mustapha Ussif.
