Partisanship Politics Will Not Hinder 9th Legislative Function-Senate President

The newly elected Senate President Senator Ahmed Lawan has assured Nigerians that partisanship politics will not anyway hinder the Senate from performing her statutory duties to enable country solves her challenges.

Senator Lawan defeated his counterpart Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno State having polled 79 votes against Ndume who polled 28 votes in the election conducted at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

Speaking at the event on Tuesday, the Lawan who identified insecurity, Unemployment and poor welfare of Nigerian as challenges, saying that NASS will work with government to ameliorate the suffering of Nigerians.

He sought for the cooperation of every member in order to record successful 9^th National Assembly: “I want us to remain united, remain focus as an institution for delivery of those vital, critical and crucial legislative interventions that are necessary to provide suitable good governance in this country.

“Today, we are all united by one thing as representatives of Nigerians we are here together, we are face with the reality of ensuring that nothing, I repeat nothing comes between us in our pursue in ensuring this institution performs those mandatory and statutory duties and ensure we work as a team to provide the support that is require for the government to function.

“I am of the APC party and there are many of our colleagues who belong to others political parties particularly PDP and indeed YPP but I believe having stand here we must work together, to be able to achieve success, we will not allow politics partisanship to hinder us from performing, performing the essential interventions.

“Government has one fundamental function, that function is to provide security and welfare of the people, security tomorrow should be better than security today.

“We know what we are passing through in the last four years, we are still facing with some challenges, these challenges require that our collective attention, irrespective of our parties for us to provide security, enabling environment, employment opportunity for all our Nigerians.

“I also believed that we need to also work together to ensure we create a sustainable economy that will that works for all Nigerians from lowest level of the ladder to the topmost .”

Infrastructural development will take center stage, with new facilities such as indoor sports halls, conference centers, and improved road networks reshaping urban landscapes while strengthening the nation’s capacity to host future international events.

Economic growth is another significant dividend. Over 10,000 jobs are expected to be created, spanning construction, facility management, event planning, and tourism services.
